Floor Panel Installation
A Precision Panel SIP floor system is ideal for anyone who wishes to
have a solid, quiet and warm floor system.
The thickness of the floor panel will be determined by the span of the
panels. In the pictures below, the span is 10' between the sill plate and
the pony walls. The panels are 6.5" thick (R-25.6) x 4' wide x 20'
long and are joined together using 2 x 6 dimensional lumber. The
calculated floor load capacity in this particular installation is 58 psf.
The minimum floor load requirement is usually between 40 and 45 psf for a
residence. When installing floor panels, be sure to use construction
adhesive at all wood-to-wood connections. construction adhesive should be
used on the top of the sill plates and the pony walls.

After the double rim joist is installed, a bottom plate is attached to the
floor system. This bottom plate is installed 1/2 inch IN from the outside
perimeter of the floor system. This allows the outside skin of OSB on the
wall panels to rest on the flat surface of the floor panel. Be sure to use
a continuous bead of construction adhesive under the bottom plate. Use 16d
nails at 8" on center.

After the bottom plate is in place, be sure to accurately measure and
drill through the bottom plate at an angle and into the crawl space
wherever you will have a vertical wire chase. The wire chases are layed
out on your assembly drawings or you can measure and drill for each one as
you set panels. After wiring the house, these holes should be filled with
expanding foam to prevent air infiltration / exfiltration from the house.
